A step-by-step guide to creating a Facebook page for your business
How to set up a Facebook business page
1. Put yourself in a box
Follow this link to get started: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php and choose a classification. This helps your target audience to find you.
Do it right first time as it can’t be changed later!
2. Upload your photo/logo
Don’t be anonymous: use this free opportunity to get your brand and logo out there!
3. Complete the ‘About’ section
Like the description tag of your main website, this short snippet is designed to attract people to read and investigate more and engage with you. Make it descriptive but short and sweet (and add a link to your website)
4. Use the edit page
This allows you to update your ‘About’ section and gives you space to add a longer description of your business and the products/services you offer. The short description in point 3 was your shop window, designed to lure people in. This is the interior of your shop, so show off all you’ve got on your shelves. Don’t let it gather dust in your stockroom
The ‘Build your audience’ tool allows you to invite people to like your page. Make sure you have something to show them before you invite them in. Create a few interesting posts and have some photos in your gallery.
5. Post like it’s going out of fashion
Have a variety of posts up your sleeve: useful tips, videos, links to longer articles on your website or blog, share interesting posts others have issued, and remember... social media is, you’ve got it... social! Don’t forget that your audience want to get to know you and your team. They don’t want to be treated to the hard sell. Be human, be kind, be funny
6. How are you doing?
Don’t just post stuff willy-nilly without checking how your audience are responding. If they’re not responding, try something new. Offer something free, pose a question, start a poll. Once you’ve got a specified amount of likes, you can ‘View insights’ to see how many people are engaging with your page
Good luck! And let us know how you're getting on...
